Core Strength Exercises: Planks – The Sit Up Alternative

One of the most underrated body parts that many people neglect when they are working out are the core muscles. The core muscles comprises of your abdominals, obliques, lower back and spinal erector. Having a strong core translates to a better posture, lesser tendencies for injuries and stronger stabilising muscles when performing power and high calorie burning exercises such as squats, rows and deadlifts.

While people are caught up in losing a beer belly and building the highly sought after six pack abs by doing endless crunches, the rest of the core muscles like the lower back should not be neglected. Think having a strong lower back is not important? I’ve seen so many people get their backs injured when they are lifting furniture, picking up their kids from the floor and even playing golf! Nothing can be more painful (not to mentionĀ embarrassing), than injuring your back because it is weak and poorly conditioned.

In today’s exercise video, I’m going to show you a simple and effective core strengthening exercise that you can do anywhere!

One thing to note, this exercise may look easy. But I challenge you to do this for a minute and tell me the next day you don’t feel sore in your entire core.
